Making Flowers Last
Longer
Make sure whatever container or vase that you are going to use is clean and free
from any debris as this will prevent any bacteria from destroying your flowers.
Also make sure to remove any leaves that may fall into your vase at the time as
they too will lead to bacteria and a shorter life span for your flowers.
As a rule don’t forget to add the flower food that is supplied to you by your
flower shop; into the water with your flowers. Change the water every three to
four days. We recommend that your purchase your flowers in bud or half open.
This will give you the enjoyment of seeing them blossom and lengthen their
lifespan.
Direct sun can be a killer
for your floral arrangements. Never place flowers over a radiator or by a window
as this will cause the flowers to wilt very quickly. For best results and the
longest lifespan place your flowers in a cool room away from the sun.
Use a container that is in proportion to the amount of flowers you have. Too
small of a container for the flowers will not hold enough water, and they may
dry out before you realize it.
Remember to use a container that is the right size in proportion to the amount
of flowers. Putting too many flowers in a small container will cause them to dry
very rapidly. Once or twice a day lightly spray your flowers to create a humid
environment around your flowers.
Proper Care for Your
Flowers
It doesn’t take a brain surgeon, but the sooner you get your flowers into water,
the longer that they will last. Flowers should be re-cut at the stem while they
are in water. This re-cut is crucial for hollow-stemmed flowers so it will
discourage an airlock from forming and the possibility that the flowers won’t
take water.
The stems should be cut at an angle to allow the maximum amount of water.
Flowers will definitely last longer if plant food is added. A good alternative
to plant food is sugar.
Taking proper care of your flowers is fairly simple and it will allow you to
enjoy your flowers for a longer period of time. For those single people out
there they are also a great outlet. You plants can keep you company, so don’t be
afraid to talk to your plants.
